Five Ways to get your Human off the Sofa – Guaranteed Results

by Alfie Entlebucher on September 15, 2011

As my first birthday is fast approaching I’d like to share some important discoveries with other puppies out there – before I wake up one morning all grown up and sensible.

My Top Tips for getting Couch Potato Humans up and Running

Alfie Loves digging

Digging for a treasure!

1. Dig a hole. A hole can be dug just about anywhere, not just in your garden. Use your entire territory and be inventive. Do your humans have big flower pots in the living room? Do you have an unsupervised human bed nearby? Can you dig them? Yes you can!

2. Find a squeaky toy and don’t let go. Keep squeaking and you’re guaranteed an exciting game of chase around the house.

3. Redecorate. Carpets can be moved, tables can be overturned and books don’t need to stay in the book shelves. Extra points for paper shredding.

Re-decorating

4. Locate the bathroom and grab the end of the loo roll. Then run as fast as you can – style points for wrapping your human’s legs.

5. Go into a different room and bark as loud as you can at a random item – preferably a mirror if you can find one. Use your puppy eyes and look frightened. Your humans are sure to come out to check what’s wrong and if you play your cards right you might get cuddles or even a toy for your efforts.

Have I left any important tips off the list? Share your best ideas!

Heaving like you’re going to barf always works around here in a big hurry.

Brilliant idea Jan – I will add it to my repertoire straight away! :o )

Good job on the challenge, as Jan said heaving is a good one, that is guaranteed to get me off the couch!

I always read your advice and treasure it Alfie – good to have an older Entlebucher as role model in all things ‘Dog’ :o )

Great list post! I love the pictures of digging and “re-decorating”!! Alfie is so beautiful! I have never seen this breed in person and have only really heard of them from dog books. Leila and I love your blog and can’t wait to read more about Alfie.

Thanks for popping by! There’s not that many of us Entlebuchers around so we always get lots of attention in the park from people trying to guess what breed I am. Its a good conversation starter for the humans and gives me plenty of time to play with the other dog :-)

Love this post :) Louie especially favors the last method or random barking. Works every time. I’m trainable, I guess :)

Random barking rocks! :-)

Uh oh I shouldn’t have read this out loud I guess because immediately afterwards my puppy grabbed the squeaky toy and started squeaking! These entlebuchers are too smart! At our house there seems to be a lot of stealing and sneaking away with things…especially anything edible or tissues!?!

Woof- I’m glad I could help with your puppy’s ‘education’. Tissues and toilet paper taste great!
