Monday Mischief – I Wish She Could Just Grow up Already

by Alfie Entlebucher on July 9, 2012

The BBQ that turned into a Pub Visit

The humans had a big birthday party on Saturday and I was allowed to invite two friends over. I was so excited and asked if my buddy the Norfolk Terrier Archie and my little sister Bella could come – and their humans of course.

We were meant to have a barbeque in the garden, but the weather forecast looked so grim the humans moved the venue to one of the local pubs instead. I didn’t mind missing out on the sausages, as long as got to see my friends!

Playing in the garden

Bella turned up early with her humans on the tube and I quickly herded them back to our place. I wanted to show Bella my garden and all my toys and I was looking forward to all the latest about her pet rabbits.

I could see that she was already starting to get some bossy ideas of who should be in charge of the water bowl and the ball, so I invited her for a game of chase, followed by some wrestling. We had so much fun, running up and down the garden and taking turns on carrying the ball around. She was pretty tough for a little puppy girl – I think I might have kicked her up in the air a couple of times by mistake, but she kept coming back for more so she must have enjoyed it! Then we went inside and she peed on my rug, but that was okay because she’s only a little 14 week old puppy and couldn’t help it.

The Birthday Party at the Pub

When we were so tired we could barely move, it was time to go to the birthday party in the pub. That’s when it all started to go wrong. All my humans’ friends were cuddling the puppy, stroking her soft puppy coat, and rubbing her ears.

Awww, isn’t she lovely. Look at her, sleeping there right on the floor.’

‘She seems so much calmer than Alfie at her age.’

Noone seemed to pay any attention to me, not even my own humans, it was all about Bella.

Bella, Bella, Bella.

It went on for ages.

Even strangers stopped and wanted to pet the puppy, and I was just about to tell them all about her peeing on my rug and walk out of there when Archie and his human turned up.

Roooo oooo roooo woooof buddy, you won’t believe how glad I am to see you,‘ I barked.

He ran straight to the puppy. Or, he could have  just found some old crisps on the floor – its difficult to tell what he’s thinking and doing under all that hair.

I barked some more – and looked up to see a man from the pub chatting with my human. Apparently I had been too loud and we were being kicked out!

Actually, I was the only one being kicked out – everyone else could stay and enjoy the party while I had to go home.

So unfair – but I think it still counts towards my overall mischief score – what do you think? *waggy tail*

Aw, she’ll grow up soon enough, Alfie! Puppies are hard for everybody to resist, it’s true.

Bella is so cute, I bet you both had tons of fun even if she did steal the spotlight just a little:)

Rooo thanks Jen – that’s exactly what I thought, and then seconds later I was kicked out. So unfair! *Waggy tail*

Getting kicked out of a pub definitely counts for mischief. Not many dogs can say they’ve done that. Next time maybe you can get Bella kicked out with you.

What a lot of fun and excitement all in one day! And sometimes it’s really hard to have to be ‘the older and wiser one’, isn’t it… But at least you can add being kicked out the pub to your list of mischief, I absolutely agree!

It doesn’t sound very fair that you were the only one kicked out Alfie. Darn those cute puppies!

Awww, feel bad for you getting kicked out! It is rough with puppies around because they always steal the show and I like to be the show myself. Don’t feel bad, it was not your fault, you did not even pee on the rug but that is what puppies get away with. Happy Monday, Emma :)

You were having such fun until that nasty ol’ man threw you out! Where’s his sense of fun? Ack, humans….they can be so stodgy sometimes. :(

So unfair, Alfie! It’s like: “You’re the eldest and you are supposed to set the example”. Don’t they EVER consider the puppy did it? What’s with some humans, any how?

Awwwwe…poor Alfie! They had a lot of nerve kicking you out of the pub :(

Aww, Alfie, how awful for you. That does sound terribly unfair. Maybe you could work on not barking so much but I don’t blame you for wanting to get a little bit of all that adoration directed back your way. Unfortunately puppies just do that to hu-folks – we can’t resist them. Bella will grow up way too fast just like you did so try to be patient with everybody in the meantime. You might even miss her puppiness when she does grow up. :bighugsandsmooches: to you, Alfie.
