Going to Blogpaws 2014
Its Linda here behind the keyboard, back to tell you about our pawsome Blogpaws adventure. When we still lived in the UK I used to wish we’d have an opportunity to go to Blogpaws, but it seemed impossibly far away to go for ‘just a pet blogging conference’.
As soon as we moved to the US last year I started looking into going to Blogpaws in Vegas, only to realise it coincided with my husband’s sailing trip which he had planned for three years.
Going with Alfie to the conference on my own would be close to impossible – he is an energy furball that requires two people to look after him when you’re going places. So back to square one, no Blogpaws.
Then out of nowhere we found out that we had been nominated for the Best Pet Blog Design Award and luckily it turned out that my friend Sarah (Alfie’s sister Bella’s human) was coming to visit for a couple of weeks so Blogpaws was back on the cards!
I’ve never really managed to get Alfie to settle on command, so I knew going to the actual conference sessions would not be possible. Well it would be possible, but people would most likely get really annoyed with his barking! We decided to get there in time for the Saturday awards ceremony and pawty instead.
The Road Trip from San Francisco to Vegas
We planned what Google Maps told us would be an 8, 9 or so hour road trip to Vegas, and used the Dog Lover’s Companion to California to find some dog friendly places to stop along the way. After a twelve hour drive and one minor car accident along the way (don’t worry – everyone is okay) we finally made it to the wonderful Westin Lake Las Vegas Hotel around 2 o’clock in the morning – absolutely exhausted!
Pet Parks and Skate Boards
On the Saturday we took Alfie to the Petsafe Pet Park and he became friends with puppy Bailie from My GBGV Life, and Mort from Dogthusiast. When I say friends, I mean he raced them to the tennis balls.
We met Mia the Capybara, saw Tillman the Bulldog show off on his skateboard, good thing I always have the Best Pet Cameras with me and got some epic footage of that! I met so many of our Instagram and Blog buddies that I can’t mention them all here. It was so much fun seeing people recognise Alfie from his blog and coming up to chat – no one knew me but the other bloggers had no problem recognising Alfie’s smiley face (and rooo).
Later the same night Alfie and I walked the red carpet along with the other Nose-to-nose finalists and mingled at the pawty. We didn’t win the award we’d been nominated for, but we had so much fun it really didn’t matter. We still felt like super stars just being there!
All those people and pets crowded in one place was a little too much for Alfie to handle and he got really stressed and barky, thankfully Sarah helped me keep him in check so I got a chance to chat with some of the other bloggers, and snuggle my favourite blogging dogs.
Next year’s Blogpaws is held in Nashville – are you going?
