Here are some news about a charity I had never heard of before but now that I know what they do, I would love to spread the word!
Fifteen year old Jenny Whelan is getting ready to be centre stage at the world’s greatest dog show, Crufts in March.
Jenny, a Young Kennel Club member is being awarded this year’s Cinnamon Trust Silver Shield after dedicating her weekends for the last five years to walking Mitzi, a dog belonging to 92 year old Peggy Clarke, through the charity, Cinnamon Trust.
Cinnamon Trust Founder and Chief Executive, Averil Jarvis MBE said:
“Jenny has been chosen from 600 young volunteers. All of them help elderly people with their pets, but Jenny is outstanding in her consistency and commitment.”
Jenny’s help in walking Mitzi, a West Highland White Terrier, allows Peggy and her much loved dog to stay together, by providing the extra exercise Mitzi requires and Peggy is unable to give.
Looking forward to being presented her award at this year’s Crufts Jenny said:
“I love walking Mitzi and my mum and I have become good friends with Peggy. Mitzi is fun to walk and loves her cuddles. Being a young volunteer is such a great way of helping people as well as having a great time with dogs. It is also reassuring for the elderly people you help, that their beloved pets are receiving such great care. If it was not for Cinnamon Trust their lives would be a lot harder.”
Caroline Kisko, Kennel Club Secretary, said:
“The Kennel Club would like to congratulate Jenny. It’s wonderful to hear of YKC members getting involved within the local community and sharing their love of dogs with others. Volunteering offers a great learning experience, providing a fulfilling sense of achievement and an opportunity to understand more about the many different roles dogs have within our society.”
